Dragon's Peak

Locked in a small bubble of Chaos magic, a set of mountains shoot up from the desert sands beside the main travel road from Sypher across the expanses of the Desert.

Up to 3 miles high at the maximum, there are in all a total of 4 peaks. The peak closest to the city of Sypher is carved in the shape of a dragon's head, and can be seen from a good distance off. The tallest peak is the second, its back shooting into low settling clouds and obscured by mists.

These humps are the home to strange black birds who caw at each other constantly when left alone with no other beings to hear them. When travelers on their mountains appear, they go completely silent, sitting nearby and staring. These birds will group around campsites, and watch eerily into the night never blinking nor making a sound. They never seem to move, but they multiply whenever one turns their back upon them. However, they seem to regard travelers with a neutral air, until provoked. Once touched, prodded, or attacked these birds' shadows will swoop down en masse and devour the being bothering them in a scant few seconds while their main bodies remain completely motionless. They are cannibalistic when nothing, such as the rabbits who flourish on the mountains, suit their tastes. They are somewhat based in the mists they live in, able to turn ghostlike and transport themselves short distances with no problems.

Most travelers to the mountains report that they are slowly driven mad by the incessant feeling of something watching them. More of the birds seem to congregate the more emotions are involved and it is highly speculated that they indeed feast on the emotions of those they watch. They especially seem to enjoy fear, intense sweaty palmed fear. Happiness and joy unless particularly strong seems to bore them, and those who completely ignore the birds existence and who frolic as if nothing were wrong in the world can even sometimes act as a sort of ward, keeping the birds at a slightly farther distance than without.

There is a massive version of these birds, who lives at the very peak of the second mountain inside a large hollowed out cave. The cave seems to have been created by beaks slamming into the rock over and over, carving out a niche. The bird who lives there is commonly known as Bleach, and it is the most dangerous of its kind. It appears to be guarding an ancient treasure, and has lived for as long as anyone can remember. This bird is unlike the others in that, along with his size, he has no qualms about moving in front of other beings. He is extremely quick to anger, and will attack anything that comes near his home in hopes that he will gain a meal, or destroy an enemy. He seems to be paranoid about intruders, and will chase creatures from his mountain with a sort of obsessive aura about him. The smaller birds appear to be his spawn and decedents of such.

Something is special about the mountain that the birds protect, but no one is sure what it is.
